About Us
Sherwood Acres Christmas Trees is a joint business venture created by family owners Jon and Sylvia Bednarski, William and Kristin Rover, David Yount and Karen Bednarski.
Jon and Sylvia Bednarski operated Sherwood Acres Beef for many years, but decided to scale back the cattle business in their retirement. Jon still wanted to be involved in farming and loves working on the land. He was intrigued by Christmas Tree farming and while discussing the idea with his daughter, Kristin, and son-in-law, William, the idea took hold.
Will and Kristin, who love the holiday season, have always had trouble finding a place to cut their own tree near Lexington, Kentucky. They always dreamed of a farm that had a nostalgic feel where their family could go spend time getting a tree during the holidays.
Jon’s newly-retired brother-in-law, David Yount, and sister, Karen Bednarski, had purchased a farm of their own, Rask Farm, down the road and were enjoying farming on their land and also interested in growing trees.
The discussion of starting a tree farm became more serious, and with the group bringing a variety of skills including backgrounds in business, marketing, communications, engineering and education, the idea began to take shape. The family partners planted the first trees on Sherwood Acres Farm in March of 2021 and have continued to plant trees and develop tree farm infrastructure in the years since.
The business venture has been exciting for the entire family with even the youngest family members have enjoyed participating in the tree planting and helping out on the farm.
In addition to you-cut trees, the farm will offer pre-cut trees, a Christmas shop, photo opportunities, crafts and other activities and events for guests.
